We will be in Florence for New Year's Eve and Day. It looks like there is plenty to do on New Year's Eve. But what's open on New Year's Day that would be fun for a family - children between 12 and 21? What's open?
Thanks.
Hi Rob,
Much will be closed on Jan. 1 but I have 2 nice ideas for your family:
- the Leonardo da Vinci museum should be open and has physical models of many of Leonardo's inventions. You can interact with some of the objects and it's suited to young people too. There are two, the main museum in via dei Servi 66 r and a smaller one with only models of machines in via Cavour 21, both centrally located.
- Palazzo Vecchio should be open. This is a wonderful way to spend some time, you can get an all-inclusive ticket which includes a visit up the prison tower (at top great views of Florence). They have fun guided tours where the guides are dressed as Renaissance characters and re-enact life as it was when the Medici lived there. These are quite reasonably priced and can be booked at the ticket desk (I'd go a day or two before if possible to make sure you get a place). You can read about Palazzo Vecchio on FWG.
Hope this helps!
Carol
