Store Closure Dates

Can please let me know when the stores in Italy will be closed in the Summer? I plan on traveling during August 15 - 23rd and I'm wondering if the outlet malls and shopping is closed during this time? What about restaurants?

Thanks

Janet

Hi Janet,

The week you're coming is one of the biggest vacation weeks of the year for Italians - August 15th is 'ferragosto', the main summer holiday, so many businesses will be closed.

However, Florence is a tourist city so you will definitely still find many shops open and certainly restaurants will be open too, with the odd exception here and there.

The outlet malls just outside of Florence (eg. The Mall, Barberino, etc) will be open for sure as they don't close in August at all.

For the most part, in the main downtown area you will find lots of stores still open but more 'off-the-beaten-track' parts of the city will have closed stores and restaurants from the 10th to the 18th of August.

You are staying up to the 23rd though, so from Monday the 19th you should have no trouble anywhere since the city gets back to 'normal' after the 'ferragosto' week/weekend is over.

Hope that helps and enjoy Florence.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Carol
